Jalepeno Garlic Tofu (Vegan, Gluten Free)

 Garlic tofu
A mouthwatering appetizer, side dish, or topping on rice or salad! Don’t be scared by the name of this dish. Jalepeno peppers, after deseeded, has a mild, delicious flavour and adds a little kick to this otherwise normal dish. If you like heat, you can also avoid the deseeding of the jalepeno! Please always remember that organic ingredients are always beneficial for your body and our environment.
Jalepenos, believe it or not, has several health benefits! Some of these include weight loss, anti-inflammatory, eases headaches, clears nasal congestion, helps clear bad bacteria from your stomach, lowers blood pressure due to vitamin C and A contained in it, excellent anti-oxidant, it’s also scientifically known to kill some cancer sells! These small, fiery green peppers provide so much power to your body and mind!
We kept it pretty simple for this recipe. Although, it is also great with caramelized onion, additional toppings such as green onion and if you like cilantro, you’d appreciate it on top of this dish!
Makes: 3-4 appetizer servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 package Firm or extra firm Tofu (cubed, approx.350g)
  • 1/2-1 medium Jalepeno pepper (deseeded and chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 tsp Brown Sugar
  • 4+ cloves Garlic (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp Coconut oil (or oil of choice)
  • 1 tsp Tamari Shoyu
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:

1. In a medium to large bowl, mix cornmeal, brown sugar, salt and pepper
2. Toss cubed tofu in the bowl with the ingredients above (gently, so you don’t break apart the tofu)
3. Start heating the oil in a frying pan
4. Brown the tofu in the fying pan at medium to high heat, stirring occasionally for approximately 5 minutes. Scoop out tofu into a bowl
5. In the same oil, fry garlic, jalepeno, tamari shoyu and salt and pepper until garlic gets nice and golden
6. Toss together the garlic and jalepeno with the tofu
7. Plate and devour!
